Coyotes fall 5-2 to Leafs in Nelson

Milo Labonte scored two goals — one on the powerplay — as the Osoyoos Coyotes fell 5-2 to the Leafs in Nelson Saturday evening.

The Coyotes (1-8-1) were playing on the road after hosting Summerland Friday evening.

Osoyoos trailed 4-0 midway through the third period before Labonte finally broke Leafs netminder C.J. Wedenig.

He added his second goal with just under three minutes remaining to draw the Yotes to within two at 4-2.

Nelson, however, would score less than 30 seconds later to put the game out of reach.

Bailey Monteith took the loss for the Coyotes, stopping 29 of 34 shots. At the other end of the ice, the Yotes managed 22 shots on Wedenig.

The game was marred by some rough play in the third period, the teams combining for 92 minutes in penalties, including four game misconducts, two for each side.

The Yotes were one-for-16 on the powerplay, the Leafs three-for-19.

The road doesn’t get any easier for the young Coyotes. They play in Kelowna against the Chiefs (12-0-0-1) Tuesday evening.
