An Osoyoos woman’s dream realized means the community now has a dedicated traditional Indian restaurant.
The Rai family will open the doors on the Indian Flame on Main Thursday morning, offering to the community traditional Indian and Punjabi fare.
“I’ve waited for this day long enough,” said Kuldeep Rai, busy with final preparations in the space previously occupied by Good Karma Kitchen. “I’ve been looking for the right space for the last few years. This was our goal: to open an Indian Restaurant.”
The menu samples a wide variety of regional and traditional cuisine native to the Indian subcontinent, including chutneys, pakoras, paneer, dahi and kadhi dishes.
Kuldeep also promises to offer a Thali lunch special six days a week.
The Indian Flame will provide dining service from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Take-out service will also be available.
The restaurant is located directly east of Mami’s Pizza, also owned and operated by the Rai family. The popular pizza restaurant has served Osoyoos for seven years with the Rais in charge.
Kuldeep wants to give the Osoyoos community a taste of Indian cooking, inviting diners to come to the Indian Flame on Main’s grand opening this Sunday.
Between 5 and 8:30 p.m., samples from many of the restaurant’s dishes will be served free of charge.
