It was a fire that came two weeks too early for an abandoned property in the Osoyoos community’s west end.
The property, located just across the street from the new firehall on 74 Avenue — which is still under construction — went up in flames last night, keeping firefighters busy from just before midnight through the wee hours of the morning.
“We finished cleaning up and went home at 3:30,” said Chief Rick Jones.” And we were just called out again because it just started smoking again.”
The age of the building made fighting the fire a difficult proposition for the 20 firefighters who attended.
“There’s sawdust insulation in the ceiling — it’s very old,” explained Chief Jones. “It’s really hard to put out sawdust.”
