Plenty of fun as Oscars event
celebrates local student theatre

Kenrick Lennnon and wife Cavelle took home the big prize at the OSS Drama Club's Oscar-themed event Sunday evening, winning a "wine tree" that featured almost 50 local bottles.

Shrek’s friends sure know how to throw a party.

Supporters of the Osoyoos Secondary School’s drama club —  which will be presenting Shrek The Musical later this spring — raised more than $3,000 at an Oscars-themed soiree Sunday evening at The Sage Pub.

“[I’m] still working on an exact total of funds raised, though I’m confident we are slightly over our fundraising goal of $3,000,” said organizer Jen Shiels. “So many wonderful volunteers dedicated many hours to this event being a success.

Jen’s team included Isabel and Maria Dias — along with their husbands — Sharlene Fernandes (who unfortunately could not attend the event), Kate Shull, and Kara Burton.

The third-annual fundraiser — a formal affair that allows theatre and cinema fans to gather to share the Oscars experience — included multiple giveaways (Oscars), a wine tree and a generous sampling of o’dourves put together by The Sage Pub kitchen.

“It couldn’t be done without Al and his amazing staff at the Sage Pub,” said Mrs. Shiels, who also had help from family.

“Another key helper during the last week while home for university reading break was Hannah Shiels, who helped tying everything together,” she said.

Hannah starred as Belle in the club’s 2017 production of Beauty and the Beast.

The event also drew immense support from the Osoyoos business community, with more than 40 local merchants contributing to the event.
