Town goes shopping for Water Park operator

A bid to place an inflatable water park at Legion Beach will soon be in the hands of interested contractors.

Osoyoos Council Monday approved a Request for Proposals “from interested and qualified companies to enter into a commercial lease agreement for the seasonal installation and management of a modular inflatable waterpark.”

The park is expected to be located on the west side of Osoyoos Lake with shore access through the northern grassed portion of Legion Beach, across Kingfisher Drive from the Town’s existing splash park.

The waterpark would occupy a portion of the area currently contained within protective roped buoys as a public swimming area every summer.

The release of the RFP follows a Town survey of residents that introduced the water park concept as a potential summer opportunity. The survey asked residents to consider several community locations, including Legion and Cottonwood beaches.

The Legion Beach location was selected by Council after considering various options, shortlisting two potential sites, and reviewing survey results and comments from the 249 respondents.

After the RFP period is closed, the Town’s Waterfront Steering Committee would review and evaluate proposals received and provide recommendations to Council. The selected operator would be asked to present its proposal at a public open house.

The water park likely wouldn’t open until the spring of 2018.
