Local Emergency Services workers are busy this morning at the scene of an overnight fire in Osoyoos, making sure no one was trapped inside.

“We’re going back right now,” said Osoyoos Fire Chief Ryan McCaskill of a blaze on Meadowlark Drive that had his crew out of their beds at 2 a.m.

He described the fire as a “fully involved structure fire” at a residence which was “previously burnt out before.”

There is a concern, he said, that a squatter on the property may be trapped in the basement.

“We got on-scene and knocked it down pretty quick, but we couldn’t check the basement,” he explained.

“We needed an excavator to come in — which they’re doing right now — and we’re going to clear the top so we can make it safe to go into the basement and do a proper search.”

Local RCMP have a car posted at the location providing security.
