What has become an infrequent but common service shutdown will occur again Tuesday at South Okanagan General Hospital.
The IHA is reporting the emergency department at South Okanagan General Hospital will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday due to a lack of physician coverage.
Residents requiring care should:
- In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.
- Visit the emergency department at Penticton Regional Hospital (550 Carmi Avenue, Penticton).
- Call HealthLinkBC at 8-1-1 (24 hour service) if you are unsure about your need to go to the emergency department.
Interior Health says it regrets the interruption to “our normal emergency department services” and apologizes for any inconvenience the temporary closing may cause.
In April, the IHA scaled back physician coverage at SOGH by allowing physicians to be off-site and on call overnight (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) to respond to emergencies, rather than remaining on location for an entire shift.
The Town of Osoyoos — along with the Town of Oliver and local Areas of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen — have contributed funds to securing an apartment for visiting —or locum — doctors to stay while working at SOGH.
