Rise and shine, Osoyoos — It’s Friday, April 15

ODN_rise_and_shine_page_headerGood morning, Osoyoos, it’s Friday, April 15. Here’s what you need to know as your day gets started.

  • Osoyoos weather: A mix of sun and cloud throughout the day. A high of 17 this afternoon. Partly cloudy Friday evening. Mainly sunny over the weekend with a high of 19 on Saturday and 22 on Sunday.
  • This sounds like our kind of fun — dinner and a movie, except this dinner is about the movie.
  • A cat stuck for four days up a high voltage power pole near Princeton has finally been saved.  The orange tabby will now be an indoor cat, its owner says.
  • Vancouver folk legends Spirit of the West are heading into their final fling: three consecutive hometown gigs (tonight through Saturday) will be their last.
  • The Supreme Court rules Métis and non-status Indians are “Indians” within the meaning of Canada’s 1867 Constitution. That could mean improved benefits for up to 700,000 Canadians.
  • New Brunswick will provide free tuition to university students coming from families with a household income below $60,000. About 7,100 students will be eligible for the program
  • We could do as much for our poorest children. According to UNICEF, Canada is in the bottom third among OECD and EU nations when it comes to inequality in the well-being of its youngest citizens.
  • After Deadpool made almost $760 million, are you surprised there’s going to be a Deadpool 2?
  • And finally, what have you got planned for the weekend? Want to count a few hundred penguins? No, seriously.
  • Have a great weekend, Osoyoos. We’ll see you Monday.
