A popular Friday-evening music event is back this summer, returning some favourites from the past and introducing a few new artists to Osoyoos.

“We have six new bands that were not here last year,” said Janis St. Louis, one of four “amigos” who organize Music in the Park.

The annual summer series — now in its fourth year — opens at the Gyro Park bandstand June 28 with Cod Gone Wild.

“Last year, they had to play at the Sonora because the smoke was so bad,” said Ms. St. Louis. “But everyone loved them.”

Also back from last summer are Hillside Outlaws, the Sabrina Weeks Dance Band and the Royal Canadian Navy’s Naden Band.

“They contacted me and said they’d like to come back,” said Ms. St. Louis.

The six new bands include Room to Dance, Yard Katz, Taylor Rae and the Backset Drivers, Peggie Nora, Timbre Wolves and Suz’n Jonny’s Blues Band.

“We wish we could accommodate all the bands that have contacted us,” said Ms. Louis. “We’ve had, without even asking for solicitations, more than 50 different groups messaging us and asking can we be part of your program this year.

“All we would need is more money and we could do it two nights a week. Kamloops has concerts every night in the summer. We’ve got the perfect venue and we’ve got the organization to do it. It’s just dollars and cents.”
