A big Gyro Park crowd is expected this evening as Sabrina Weeks brings her Dance Band to town for another Music in the Park Friday evening event.
An award-winning vocalist known throughout Canada for her deeply expressive, powerful voice, Sabrina brings an extraordinary vocal and emotional range to her music.
A composer since the age of 10, her original songs are known for their thoughtful yet quirky lyrics, catchy vocal lines and strong grooves.
Sabrina Weeks has shared the stage or opened for such performers as Colin James, Tom Lavin and Powder Blues, Steppenwolf, Jack de Keyzer and the Downchild Blues Band.
She’s often featured in such prestigious concerts as the TBS Women in Blues Revue at Massey Hall and the Etta James Tribute at Hugh’s Room.
How hot is the show expected to be?
Well, Sabrina’s voice is described as “a ménage à quatre between kd Lang, Etta James, Karen Carpenter and Ella Fitzgerald writhing beneath satin sheets.”
Yeah, that’s hot.
Sabrina performed for an enthusiastic Music in the Park crowd last August.
The concert is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start, but get there early if you want seats in front of the stage.
Audiences lately are showing up early and filling the park long before the sound checks are finished.
A lawn chair or blanket, some sun screen and a hat are all you need, although a picnic lunch isn’t a bad idea as well.
