South Okanagan ready to celebrate
all things Grape

The South Okanagan is ready to get his Grape On!

More than 4,000 people are expected to descend on Oliver this weekend as the Festival of the Grape celebrates its 22nd year of the family-friendly event.

The festival goes Sunday afternoon from noon to 5 p.m. at the Oliver Community Park — the wrap-up for a weekend of celebrating wine and spirits in the South Okanagan.

The third annual Oliver Cask & Keg goes the day previous, showcasing the variety of craft breweries, cideries and distilleries in the South Okanagan, Similkameen and Boundary Country.

The outdoor event at Oliver Community Park will feature the high-energy rockabilly music of Cousin Harley and deliver eats from a selection of food trucks.

The event is non-smoking and restricted to 19 and over.

Sunday, the ever-popular Festival of the Grape — immortalized last year with an appearance from Canada’s own Rick Mercer — continues the fun.

The event showcases more than 50 BC wineries. and, of course, there’s the annual Grape Stomp competition, where teams of three compete to produce as much juice as possible often while dressed in crazy costumes.

“Grape Stomp is now officially sold out,” said Ms. Nelson. “In fact, it has grown to 30 teams and will be happening every hour.”

For the youngsters, there’s an interactive Kids Zone with games, inflatables and face painting and great eats at the Food Truck Jam.

An on-site wine store will allow attendees to purchase wines they’ll get to sample at the Festival.

“If shopping is your thing, a merchant market offers more than 60 vendors selling items from hand-painted wineglasses to jewelry to woodwork to clothing to artisan cheese,” said Ms. Nelson.

When the gates open at noon, the entertainment will get started right away with wine tents opening an hour later.

Tickets for the event will be available online at oliverfestivalofthegrape.ca for $30 right up until the Festival. Tickets for Cask & Keg are available online at olivercaskandkeg.ca for $25.

Tickets for both events are also available at Oliver Visitor Centre, Oliver Shoppers Drug Mart and Mills Office Pro in Osoyoos.
