Toronto (Canada) (AFP) – At the end of the first round of the Canadian Open in Toronto, American golfer Windham Clark scored a 7-under-63 on Thursday to take a one-shot lead on Thursday.

The 28-year-old American posted seven birdies in a boogie-free round at St George’s Golf Course in search of success for his first PGA Tour in five years.

That was enough for a one-shot lead over England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, who recorded a six under 64.

Fitzpatrick was denied a piece of the lead after a solo bogey in the fourth hole.

“I made a lot of cuts this year and had a lot of very solid rounds,” Clark said after the first day.

“I’m going in the right direction. Today everything came together … my game is good.”

The Americans Doug Kim and Harold Warner III were two from the front with five men after the 65 (-5) cardboard.

Mexican Carlos Ortiz was the top-ranked Latin American at the start, along with Irishman Shane Lori and American Jim Nose in ninth place, all three with 67 (-3).

Colombian Sebastian Munoz finished 25th with a card of 69 wins, followed by Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo with 70 wins, tied on the field.

Spanish Rafa Cabrera Bello and Venezuela Jonathan Vegas were tied at 71 (+1) with 61 runs.

For his part, fellow Colombian Camilo Villagas finished the first round with 79 runs.

The PGA Tour event kicked off in Canada in the wake of the turmoil in the golf world following the launch of the LIV Golf Series outside London. A league with the support of Saudi Arabia.
