Hwy. 97 is closed near Vaseux Lake as emergency crews work to clean up after a two-vehicle accident.

According to witness Randy Stadnyk, who was among the first to arrive on the accident scene, the collision occurred around 8 a.m.

“It probably just happened; there wasn’t fire or ambulance here, nothing at that point,” he said by phone while waiting for the highway to clear.

“There’s a heavy half-ton truck jackknifed in the middle and there’s debris all over. It looks like a collision with a van.”

The collision has closed the highway in both directions near Vaseux Lake, he reported.

Although unconfirmed, it appears there were no fatalities. An ambulance left the scene with the driver of the van, reportedly with non-life-threatening injuries.
