Colin Bell scored two goals, including the game winner one minute into the third, as the Osoyoos Coyotes nipped the Steam 2-1 in Summerland last night.
The win, the 5th straight for the Coyotes, moves Osoyoos 12 points ahead of second-place Summerland in the KIJHL’s Okanagan Division.
The Yotes can clinch at least a share of the division crown with a win against the Princeton Posse this evening at the Sun Bowl.
Game time is 7:30.
An accompanying loss by the Steam against visiting Revelstoke would give the Coyotes the divison crown outright.
It was a rough-and-tumble, tight-checking struggle for much of Friday’s game, with the Yotes unable to solve Steam netminder Matthew Kostiw through the first 36 minutes.
Bell’s first goal, assisted by Rainer Glimpel and Carter Shannon, came with just 4:03 remaining in the second frame and Steam defenceman Alex Williams in the box for cross-checking.
Summerland’s Paulson Letard evened the game less than two minutes later with Coyote Ryan Morrell off the interference.
Bell’s game winner 1:05 into the third was unassisted.
Osoyoos goalie Stephen Heslop stopped 26 shots; the Yotes managed just 20 shots.
