PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – A potential golf league backed by Saudi Arabia has taken several physical hits recently, with many of the game’s stars including Jon Ram, Colin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau publicly pledging allegiance to the PGA Tour flag.
They joined a chorus that already included Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka.
Add Xander Schauffele to the list.
“My loyalty to the PGA Tour, and my belief in positive changes about to be implemented as the PGA Tour, particularly when it comes to cross-intellectual property rights, portfolio size and overall transparency,” Shaveli posted on Twitter.
Jack Nicklaus weighed as well.
At an event ahead of the Honda Classic earlier this week, Nicklaus was asked about the league that his close friend Greg Norman leads.
“(The PGA Tour) brought millions and millions of dollars to the communities, it brought great competition, and great television,” Nicklaus said. “Why don’t I support it? Instead, I’m going to support for my own good, see 40 men dropping out of the PGA Tour at the whim of an advertising agency in Saudi Arabia? What happens to the other players?”
“I just don’t like it. I don’t think it’s true.”
