Canada Future seeks to present the credentials of the winning team

Kansas City (USA), July 10 (EFE) .- The new football stadium within the Canadian team will officially start in the sixteenth edition of the Gold Cup, where they face Martinique this Sunday, with Group B, USA and Haiti in the opening match.

The Canadian team, led by English coach John Hertmann, expects a massive victory in the first match of the 2021 Gold Cup.

Although Canada entered the tournament without striker Jonathan David due to injury, they have a team that will grow with real talent in the future.

They face a team from Martinique that has only come out of the group stage of the tournament once, and in 2002 Canada came out on top to get a comfortable win, but Hertmann warns that the match must be played.

Although Canada’s future is very bright, Hertmann recalled the worst experience they had in the last edition of the 2019 Gold Cup, and they should have won it without the two best players.

Alfonso Davis of Bayern Munich suffered an ankle injury in training that would keep him out of the competition, while Lilin David had to rest.

But Hertman has no doubt that Canada, along with Toronto forward Io Aquinola, will announce its decision to compete internationally with that country by not being invited by the United States, a young team that can beat any competitor.

The 21-year-old Aquino is presented as a must-see player, and it will be a great attraction for the fight against Martinique, which Hertman considers ‘important’ to what they can do for the rest of the match.

“We not only have to win, we have to trust our football,” Hertmann said. “In addition, we want to start the tournament as we did in 2019, with a massive win against the same competitor, which shows the football progress we have made over the last two years.”

As a result of the outbreak, the absence of international dates on the football calendar for the past 18 months has had a negative impact, especially on Martinique.

Since they are not officially recognized by FIFA, they do not qualify for the World Cup or participate in the FIFA World Cup, meaning their match against Canada will be their first since 2019.

Meanwhile, Canada has won all six of their matches in 2021 and recently went on to win two matches equally successfully against Haiti in qualifying for the World Cup.

Martinique will not only face a huge talent shortage in their opening Gold Cup competition, but will also have a huge gap in production.

Most of the Canadian team have been together for many years and have coached for several weeks with Haiti before the World Cup qualifiers and now with the Gold Cup.

Martinique enters the tournament due to lack of coordination as a result of spending time together, but Caribbean coach Marco Bocali is confident of the commitment of the entire team to get the best result against Canada.
