Madrid, 16 Aug. (Europa Press) –
Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev defeated American Reilly Opelka in the final of his fourth Masters 1,000 ATP tournament in Toronto this Sunday. WTA, Camilla Giorgi of Italy wins (6-3, 7-5) Czech Carolina Bliskova.
As he did in the semifinals with John Isner, Medvedev dropped another American gunman, elevating his fourth title in the division to five finals, twelfth in his record overall. The world number two compromised fourth game, battling three break balls and then breaking.
Opelka lost her best weapon and part of her concentration. The Russians gave the rest of them problems again, this time early, able to break again in the second set. The American, in search of his third and most important title, gifted it to Medvedev, who added Toronto to the 1,000 collection from Paris, Shanghai and Cincinnati.
In addition, at the WTA competition in Montreal, in the 1,000 division, Giorgi surprised the fourth seed by lifting the biggest trophy of his career in the last three years. The Italian beat Bliskova, Eastbourne and Tokyo 2020 for the third time this year.
